Why We're Building Savie

Lemon and social media

Hi everyone. This is the first article in our blog, so it feels right to start with the most basic question: who are we, and why are we building Savie?

We are the creators of Savie, a nutrition and recipe app. I'm Sasha, a product manager, and Anton is a developer. I always wanted to build a product that would be connected to healthtech, something I would actually use myself, and something that could be useful not once a year, but every day or at least every week.

And food fits this idea perfectly. Food is something we deal with every single day. Not theoretically, not once in a while, but several times a day. What should I cook this week? What should I buy? How much should I eat? What can I have as a snack? What do I do when I want something tasty but also do not want to feel like I gave up on my health goals again?

All these small daily decisions have a huge impact on our health and quality of life. They affect our mood, because food is also about pleasure, taste, variety, and the feeling that your life is not just a list of restrictions. They affect our health, because so many factors in our body depend on what we eat every day.

Either you eat tasty food and enjoy yourself, or you eat “properly” and suffer a little. I do not think that is true.

And there is this stereotype that these two things do not really go together. We already have enough knowledge, science, and technology to combine both. The real question is how to bring all of that into normal everyday life.

Because in real life, the problems are usually very simple. What do I cook when I'm tired of everything? What exactly should I eat when a doctor says, “you need more vegetables and fiber”? How do I not quit after one day? Why does every dish on Instagram look like it takes 30 seconds, but in my kitchen it somehow does not? Where did I save that recipe? How do I eat sweets and still care about my body? What happens when I did not cook anything again and now delivery is the only option?

These are the questions I personally faced many times. My friends face them too, both at home and while living abroad. And we have a lot of ideas on how to solve these problems with modern technology in a way that feels simple and natural, not like another exhausting health app that tells you how badly you live.

What we believe

Healthy eating should feel like something you actually want to do — not another chore you quit after a day.

That is why we made Savie. We want Savie to help people enjoy the benefits of cooking and eating better without turning food into a complicated project:

  • To save recipes they actually like.
  • To understand what is inside those recipes.
  • To plan meals more easily.
  • To shop with less chaos.
  • To gradually make food healthier without losing the pleasure of eating.
There are many ways to eat both tasty and healthy. You do not always have to choose only one.

That is the idea behind Savie.

And this blog is where we will talk more openly about what we are building, why we are building it, what ideas we are testing, what problems we see in everyday nutrition, and how we think technology can help.

Savie is still growing, and we want to build it step by step: with real use, real feedback, and real everyday problems in mind.
